Advocacy in Action - A conversation with Kirsty Sutherland

Each quarter, the Committee for Perth hosts Executive Women’s Leadership Forums (EWLF) as part of its member-only program of events with invitees drawn from management and executive level positions. Since its inception in 2009, we have received the strong support of Kate Lamont who has become our unofficial patron with events held at her Bishop’s House venue.

During the evening, a prominent female will discuss her career and life journey and reflect on how she has overcome challenges and obstacles along the way. Over the years, attendees have heard from Local Government Mayors, Journalists, Chiefs of Staff, Vice Chancellors, Managing Directors, Elite Sportswomen, General Managers, Cultural Custodians and Authors. At almost every event we have laughed and cried as each woman has shared her own unique story.

In recent years, our Filling the Pool report and its recommendations for women have featured with speakers often acknowledging the need to grow networks and the benefits of having good role models. The EWLF event series provides the opportunity to be inspired by role models and forge relationships with women working in a range of sectors and professions.

The 2018 program of speakers will focus on women working in male dominated environments. In April we kicked-off with Kirsty Sutherland, a partner in the litigation area at Corrs Chambers Westgarth. On Tuesday 8th May, we will hear from Libby Lyons, Director of the Workplace Gender Equality Agency at Lamont’s Bishops House. Other speakers scheduled for this year include the Hon. Simone McGurk, Julie Shuttleworth and Dr Fiona Wood.
