Perth's housing, homelessness and economic stress

Our next New Horizons webinar provides the opportunity to hear from John Atkins AO, Chair and Mark Glasson, CEO of Anglicare WA about Perth's housing, homelessness and economic stress.

Access to affordable housing on low and minimum income is vital to a healthy community. Paying higher rents and having to move often creates financial and emotional stress, exhaustion, difficulty maintaining work, difficulty keeping children in school, and difficulty connecting with friends and family. Being able to secure decent accommodation is often the first step for people in getting back on their feet and developing a sense of belonging.

Anglicare WA's Rental Affordability Snapshot 2022 found median rents increased around $50 per week since last year’s Snapshot:

  • 12% in the Perth metro area ($480)
  • 13.5% in the South West and Great Southern ($420)
  • 9% in the North West ($600)
