John Atkins

John is the Chairman, Western Australia for the ANZ, having previously been a partner with Freehills, one of Australia's leading law firms and Head of its Perth office.
He is also the Chairman of Lotterywest, Breakaway Resources Ltd, Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Western Australia and a Director of PearlStreet Ltd, Australian Finance Group Ltd, Barrington Consulting Group and Lions Eye Institute Ltd.
John was a founding director of Committee for Perth.
Ian Fletcher
Director - 2006 to date
Ian Fletcher has gained a plethora of experience in the private sector and has over thirty years experience in local, state and federal government. Currently, Ian is the Vice-President of Government Relations in Western Australia for BHP Billiton, where he is responsible for the ongoing working relationship between BHP Billiton as a company and the Western Australian State Government and local governments.
Ian spent twenty years in the Australian Government in a variety of senior positions based in Canberra, Hobart, Melbourne and Perth. He was Principal Private Secretary to Senator Fred Chaney when he was Minister for Social Security from 1981 to 1983 and Chief of Staff to Western Australian Premier Richard Court from 1993 to 1999.
Ian has held Chief Executive Officer roles with:
- the City of Kalgoorlie Boulder;
- Australian Chamber of Commerce in Canberra; and
- The Tasmanian Department of Community and Health Services.
Kate Lamont
Director - 2007 to date
Kate Lamont has more than two decades of experience in the food and wine industry in Western Australia.
She is CEO and managing partner in the Lamont's family business, an integrated food and wine business incorporating grape growing, wine production and sales. The business also operates restaurants in the Swan Valley, Margaret River and East Perth. Kate opened a fourth food and wine venue in Cottesloe in 2008.
As one of Western Australia's most successful chefs, Kate was named as an Industry Icon by Vogue Entertaining and has written best selling cooking books with sales in excess of 30,000. She is a regular guest presenter on ABC radio and is an occassional columnist for The Weekend Australian.
Kate was appointed to Tourism Western Australia's Board of Commissioners in 2004 and became Chairman in 2006. Kate was appointed to the board of Tourism Australia in July 2009.
Kate is a past winner of the WA Telstra Business Woman of the Year and was also a Finalist in the Veuve Clicquot Award.
John Langoulant
Director - 2008 to date
John is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Oakajee Port and Rail.
The former Chief Executive of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in WA, John has also held the position of Chief Executive of the Western Australian Treasury Department and worked in Canberra at the Australian Government Treasury.
In addition to enjoying his roles across these organisations, John has a range of other interests through a number of bodies. He is a Senator at the University of Western Australia and is a member of the following Boards:
- Telethon Institute for Child Health Research
- Western Australian Ballet
- State Government's Economic Audit Committee
John is also a member of the Australian Government's Reform Council and Chair of National Hire Limited.
Jeff Dowling
Director - 2009 to date
As Managing Partner of the Ernst & Young Western Region, Jeff brings over 30 years professional experience to his role at the helm of Perth's premier professional services firm.
A qualified chartered accountant, Jeff has worked predominantly with energy, mining and insurance sectors, advising senior executives and other key decision makers on projects such as company flotations, take-overs, mergers and acquisitions.
Jeff also holds a number of professional appointments and affiliations, which include being a:
- member of the Board of Trustees for United Way
- past member of the Board of Partners for Ernst & Young, Australia
- member of the Australian Institute of Company Director
- member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Australia
- associate member of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA)

Gene Tilbrook
Director - Co-Opt
Gene Tilbrook is a company director and advisor with a background in corporate strategy and finance, acquisitions and capital projects.
He is a director of Fletcher Building, TransPacfic Industries and NBN Co., the Australian government-owned broadband group.
He was formerly with Wesfarmers Limited where he headed the business development group for many years and was Finance Director from 2005 to 2009.
He is a Councillor of Curtin University of Technology and the Australian Institute of Company Directors (WA) and a member of the Board of the UWA Perth International Arts Festival.
Joanne Farrell
Director - 2009 to date
Joanne has worked in the Mining Industry since 1981. She has a Bachelor degree in Science, majoring in Psychology and Economics from the University of Western Australia and a Graduate Diploma in Management from Curtin University.
Joanne’s current role of VP Organisation Resources for the Rio Tinto Iron Ore group of companies covers the functions of HR, Health Safety Environment and Communities at a strategic level for the operations at HIsmelt, Pilbara Iron, RTIO Expansion Projects, Rio Tinto Brazil, Rio Tinto Marine, Dampier Salt and Iron Ore Company of Canada as well as strategic HR planning for the emerging operations in Guinea and India. Joanne is also a member of the RTIO ExCo, a Board member of both the WA Future Fund and of the Rio Tinto Aboriginal Foundation.
Joanne brings a wealth of experience to her current portfolio. Previous roles have included GMHR for Rio Tinto Aluminium, VPHR and Government Affairs for Rio Tinto Energy America in the USA, GMHR and Communities for Rio Tinto Exploration based in London, GMHR and External Affairs for Rio Tinto Coal in southern NSW, Manager HR for Rio Tinto Diamonds in Western Australia and Manager HR for BHP-Billiton Manganese in the Northern Territory. Prior to working in the Mining Industry Joanne was an Economist in Regional Development with the Government of Western Australia, based in Carnarvon.
Evan Campbell 
Director - 2009 to date
Evan commenced employment with Mirvac in 1992 as a Trainee Development Executive. Over the past 17 years Evan has been Development Manager responsible for many of Mirvac’s most successful projects, including the Beacon Cove development in Melbourne, Newington Olympic Village and Pacific Place Project in Chatswood, Sydney.
In 2001, Evan was instrumental in Mirvac’s acquisition of Fini Group where he headed the property due diligence team for Mirvac. In addition, he also managed Mirvac’s winning bid to develop the $1b Peninsula project at Burswood, Western Australia.
Since arriving in Perth, Evan has contributed in Mirvac’s growth heading up major projects and new business deals including the Leighton Beach project. Evan was promoted to Chief Executive Officer of Mirvac WA in December 2006 and currently is responsible for managing and leading Mirvac’s business in WA. Evan is also on the Divisional Council of the Property Council of Australia (WA Division) and a Board member of Heritage Perth.
Gayle McGarry
Company Secretary
Gayle is a solicitor who joined the Committee for Perth as company secretary in November 2007. She was a senior associate in the corporate group of the Perth office of Freehills, until she left private practice at the end of 2003 to take up the in-house counsel role with a private investment company with diverse national and international interests. She is now the Company Secretary of National hire Group limited.
